Ordinary starfish, sea star
The sea star.
The sea star lives on the bottom of the sea and uses his arms not only to hold himself fixed on a shell but also to set himself in movement. With his arms he can open the double shell of a mussel by enclosing with two arms the one half of the shell and with his other arms the other half. The mussel uses his strong muscle (constrictor) to hold the shell convulsively tight, but gives it up after many minutes by reason of tiredness. Then slobbering he eats the mussel. Also oysters and other shellfishes are on the menu of the starfish.
